" John A Ries Dies, Burial Tuesday Morning

John A. Ries, 74, well know resident of Dyersville, passed away athis home at 115 Nort h Willow Street Saturday morning, March 8, followingan extended illness.

A son of late Michael and Josephine Conrad Reis, he was born April16, 1883, at New Vienn a, IA. He attended the St. Boniface schools and onMay 28, 1907 married to Miss Barbara Elenz, in St. Boniface church. Theycelebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary May 28, 1957.

Mr. Ries was a member fo the Rosary Society, for thirty years he wassecretary of the Hic kory Valley Co-op creamery, township assessor forfifteen years and township clerk fo Ne w Wine township for seven years.

Surviving are his wife, three sons, Alphonse, Sand Springs, IA.,Herbert Greeley, IA., Ar thur of New Vienna, and five daughters Dorothy,Mrs. Ray Biermann, Epworth, IA., Loretta, Mrs . Cletus Brunsmann, NewVienna, Bernice, Mrs. Francis Gassmann, Edgewood, IA., Alma, Mrs. Elme rBrunsmann, and Ester, Mrs. Arthur Steffin, both of Manchester; 54 grandchildren and 8 grea t grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters; Mrs. Anton Maiers, Holy Cross; Mr.Herman Lueken, Luxembu rg and two brothers, Andy Ries, Farley andLawerence Dyersville.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three sons, Vincent,Clarence, and Edwin in infa ncy, four brothers, Tom, Peter, Robert, andEdwin and two sisters Mayme and Lena.

The Funeral was held Tuesday morning, March 11, from Kramer FuneralHome to St. Francis X avier Basilica at nine o'clock. Rev. Wm. Clarkoffered the requiem Mass and Rev. NicholasKrull, fo New vienna,officiated the burial services in St. Boniface Cemetaery in New Vienna.

Casketbearers, all grand sons, were Wm. Ries, Charles Ries, JamesRies, Dick Ries, Rober t Biermann, and David Biermann."
