* from letter Xmas 03 TDJ III > MRM:
"I have a couple of your fathers [sic] Christmas letters to Aunt Kate that Riis must have sent Mom, I read them each year to the girls and we are amazed at how appropriate the words he wrote in the 1940's remain today. In one he talks about the wonders of Christmas Eve and how he wishes that all men would take time to reflect on the miracle of Jesus' birth and the true meaning of Peace on Earth. He was a remarkable man and I wish I could have known him longer. I think back on how much he meant to his family and the City of Richmond and look at how he managed to do so much while earning so little and am filled with awe and admiration. No wonder you, Granny and mom remain[ed] so loyal to his memory."
