According to a biography of James RILEY that I found, family emigrated from Ireland c. 1836, settling first in New York City. In 1844, they traveled up the Hudson River to Albany, thence via the Erie Canal to Lake Ontario where they took passage on a ship. Arriving in northern Wisconsin, they came by wagon to Kenosha.
