About John B Riney

Again is manifested infallible proof of the divinely inspired words, "It is appointed until man once to die." At his home near St. Patrick, Mo., at about 5 o'clock p. m., Jan. 7, 1915, surrounded by his grief sticken family and friends, John Riney departed this life. He lived to a grand old age and his life was an edification to the community. His friends were numbered by his acquaintances. He was born in Sangamon county, Ill., April 13, 1832, and came with his parents to Clark county in 1833, and for almost 60 years has lived on the same farm, except four or five years, spent in Canton, Mo. He was married to Mary Jane Brown, who died 13 years ago. Since her death his daughter, Mrs. Hawkins and family have made their home with him in the old family home. He leaves behind him devoted children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who shall ever revere his sweet memory. He was known for his wide charities, his deep pity and loved because of his amiable and gentle disposition. We believe that it may be truthfully said of him during his long residence in Clark county, his personal integrity and his high sense of honor were never questioned. Of his immediate family remain three daughters, namely, Mrs. Lewis Hartwig, Mrs. Jas. Ahern, Mrs. Alice Hawkins, all of St. Patrick, Mo. to mourn the irreparable loss caused by the removal of one so loved in the home which he cherished with such tender affections. May God grant him eternal rest and may heaven's brightest angels chant for him a hymn of welcome into the portals of everlasting joy.
