He was discharged early because of paralysis in his left leg (resulting from a wound) and the loss of his right index (trigger) finger, and he always walked with a limp.

Rissler Reunion
The sons and daughters and grand children of the late John T. and Elizabeth Rissler, held their annual reunion at the Jackson township community park, south of the city, Sunday Sept. 7th. The day was spent in playing games and a social good time. At noon a sumptuous dinner was served on a long table decorated with garden flowers in the dining hall. In the afternoon brick ice cream was served. Those present were : Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rissler, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Rissler, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Dutell, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rissler and daughter Louise Gwendolyn and son Lester Wayne, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Coltharp, Herbert Rissler, Guy Rissler, Harry Emmert and Ruth Dutell, Edna Turner, Dorothy Rissler, all of Jackson township. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rissler, daughter Fama and son John Charles, Mr. and Mrs.Ross Finley, daughter Kathleen, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rissler, Elizabeth Rissler and Wayne Finley all of Harmony. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rightsell, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Tarr, (sic, this would be William Leland Torr) daughter Mary Ellen and son James William; Mr. and Mrs. Clem Rissler and son Clem Raymond; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Knight and sons Kenneth Earl and Stanley of south of Reelsville; Dr. and Mrs. Ross S. Rissler and son Ross William, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dunnington, (Ross S. sister-in law) Miss Agnes Finley of Indianapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Layman Hepler and daughter Lily May of Putnamville, Mrs. S. E. Rissler of Iowa, Miss Ruth Julian of Washington. All departed late in the evening expecting to meet at the same place next year. ________________ John Tipton Rissler and Elizabeth Boyd appeared on the census of June 22, 1900 Washington Twp., Putnam County, Indiana; 9 children, 9 living. He was shown in the census on June 22, 1900 as a farmer.
