John Roper, (son of John Roper and Edith Farwell) bapt. 13 Nov 1768 in Chideock, Dorset, England. John Roper junior of Chideock m Jane Symonds [D9 on the Symonds tree] on 14 Feb 1804, by licence, in Pilsdon, Dorset, England, She was born on January 8th., 1783, Pilsdon, Dorset, England, bapt. there on July 15, 1785, a daughter of Giles Symonds and Anne Coleman. Jane d. 28 Jan 1855 aged 72 in Bradpole, Dorset, England, bur. 2 Feb 1855, m.i. in Chideock,, Dorset, England. John was a yeoman farmer in Chideock and, after about 1811, in Brown’s Farm, Mappercombe (parish of Powerstock), Dorset. John, of Brown’s Farm, Powerstock, signed his last will on September 29th., 1833 and he died 10 Feb 1837 aged 70 in Mappercombe in the parish of Powerstock, bur. 16 Feb 1837, with m.i. in Chideock, Dorset, England. John’s estate included lands and tenements situated at Broad Hurthill in the parish of Shipton Gorge and certain freehold, leasehold and copyhold lands in the parishes of Chideock and Powerstock (will p.c.c. – prob 11/1880). John and Jane Roper had issue.

South Face - In memory of GILES SYMONDS ROPER / son of JOHN and JANE ROPER of Mappercombe / who departed this life Feb the 8th 1814, aged 5 years. / Also of HENRY their son / who died Sep the 29th 1815 aged 2 months. / Also of GEORGE their son / who died July the 28th 1828, aged 16 years.
