In Brian Robert Bollard's book "The Bollards of Bedfordfordshire" it states that in 1833 John Rudd purchased 30 acres of land at Airds, originally granted to Charles Grainger by Governor Macquarie in 1816.He purchased the adjoining 130 acres in 1838, granted by Governor Brisbane to Patrick Cullen. This property was known as "Maryfields". Several members of his family lived on the property after John's death and descendants of James Rudd gifted some of this property to the Franciscan Brothers. It is also claimed that Father John Therry gave the land to Thomas Rudd [Senior], which seems rather strange given that Thomas is buried in the Church of England cemetery and Father Therry was not appointed to Campbelltown until 1835 some five years after Thomas senior's death. it is more likely to be Thomas {Junior} and John Rudd rather than their father who were involved in the purchase and settlement of "Maryfields'
