About John Douglas Rumble
My dad had a very sarcastic wit about him , always made us laugh, he told me the reason we have ears was to keep our mouth from meeting at the back. would always do funny little dances, when he watched tv he always preferred to sit or lie on the floor i dont think i ever saw him sitting on the lounge.
Dad was a good cook, especially the porridge he would make for us when he , Steph & I were working night shift at the mail centre & get home at 6 am on a winters morning, it was the best thing to have, his cheesecakes were always great to have as he would make the base out of nice biscuits. I remeber one time he had started to cook dinner & hadnt realised he needed something else for it so he told mum dont touch it leave it till i get back, well by the time he got back she had dished it up & dad was not impressed at all. she just plopped everything onto the plate where as dad was making some sort of pie i think.
when mum went & bought a kirby vacuum cleaner dad refused to use it as he said he could have got a second hand car for the same price.
I use to hassle dad about turning 50 which he didnt make it to , i feel bad for doing it now & since then ive never hassled anyone again about their age, Dad would have loved this family history stuff & all that we have found out I think thats what inspires me to keep looking. I ahve lost to many family members in to short a space they wont be replaced but at least I am adding to it
On the 2nd of October 1990 dad was trying to fix the washing machine when he started having chest pains, he ended up having a heart attack was taken to Calvary hospital, he had apparently been dead for an hour , they managed to revive him his brain etc everything was fine, they wanted to get him well enough to go to Sydney for a bi pass but on the 17th of October 1990 he passed away
From Lynne:
He taught me to walk when I was about a year old, then to fire a rifle (we lived in the bush and my brothers used to shoot cans from a log in the river) when I was two....I've never figured out if he let me touch the gun because I followed him around like a little shadow, and he regretted teaching me to walk!! :) He was always crazy about Empire Night....."cracker night"......and loved letting off fireworks. He did this still, when our own children were growing up, much to their delight. He had a dry, sarcastic wit, and used to tell jokes all the time. I adored him, and still do....my favourite big brother. Miss you.
