About John Rutherfurd

John Ruthirfurd, second surviving son of John the Cock of Hunthill, is styled, in deed dated 22d August 1619, Master John Ruthirfurd, sheriff-depute of Co. Roxburgh. He had the lands of Hyndhousefield and Howdenbraes, Jedburgh, and also the Maison-Dieu lands confirmed to himself, his wife Barbara, and eldest son John, by Sir John Ker of Jedburgh, 24th March 1623. His wife Barbara was daughter of James Gledstanes of Coklaw, whose father made this the residence, having sold Gledstanes in Lanarkshire, hitherto the headquarters of the family.
