John Henry Sandy

John H. (Jack) Sandy, age 81 of Westhope, North Dakota, died on Friday, January 8, 2016 at his home near Westhope, North Dakota.

John Henry Sandy, son of George and Ruth (Talcott) Sandy, was born on July 6, 1934 in Westhope, North Dakota.

He was raised on a farm near Westhope, North Dakota and graduated from Westhope Public School in 1952. He was married to Helen L. McGuire in Westhope, North Dakota on June 25, 1955. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in June of 2015.

Jack and Helen began married life by living in Tioga, North Dakota for a short period, where Jack was employed by Halliburton. In 1959, they moved to Newburg, North Dakota where he was employed by Sund Manufacturing. In 1968, they moved to the farm near Westhope, Jack was employed by the grain elevators in Westhope, Roth, Souris, and Antler, North Dakota before retiring in 1997.

Jack was a member of the St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Westhope, North Dakota. He served as president of the Westhope School Board. In 1968, Jack and his brother Jim, were instrumental in the development of the Westhope Little League Baseball program.

His passion was following the athletic accomplishments of his children and his grandchildren. He enjoyed mowing his yard, cutting hay, doing paint-by-number paintings, matchstick building and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Westhope, North Dakota; children, Brad (Sally) Sandy of Bismarck, North Dakota; Barb (Jim) Gall of Royersford, Pennsylvania; Bruce Sandy of Chattaroy, Washington; LaDonna (Larry) Ballantyne of Westhope, North Dakota; Larry (Kim) Sandy of Velva, North Dakota; Jon (Tristen) Sandy of Grand Forks, North Dakota; Patty (Darin) Baumgartner of Bismarck, North Dakota; and Jennifer (Wayne) Harvison of Bismarck, North Dakota.

And 18 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sisters, Beverly Donovan of Minot, North Dakota; Ruthie Robillard of Billings, Montana; and Carol Clark of Sherwood, North Dakota; brother, Jerry Sandy of Fargo, North Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Maria; sister, Donna Hulse and brother, Jim Sandy.
