About John Sharpe

The See family returned to Hampshire County to live with their kindred. Catherine See married John Hardy, pioneer of Hardy County. Later they all returned to the Greenbrier, where John Hardy’s name appears on the county tax list in 1783-1786.

From Catherine Vanderpool: wife of Frederick See or George Yoakum 2002

In this file I have Catharine Vanderpool dau of Wynant (sister of Abraham) as marrying (1)Frederick Michael See in 1744. After his death in 1763 she is listed as marrying both a John Sharp and a John Hardy. Personally I don't believe she ever married either one of these gentlemen. I think the marriage to John Sharp got confused by someone as there was a Catherine Vanderpool dau of John Melgert Vanderpool and Isabella Douglas who married a John Sharp. Have found absolutely nothing to indicate that either of these marriages ever happened. Don't know of the validity of it but have read numerous accounts where she may have been taken captive by the Indians when Frederick was killed. This I don't know. May or may not be true.

As to John Sharpe, I have never found this man in the records of either the Greenbrier or the South Branch of the Potomac. If he was a husband of Catherine ___ See, he might have been her first husband who died prior to her marriage to Frederick.
