About John Shepard
John Shepard
- Birth: 25 Feb 1703, Dorchester, MA
- Parents: Jacob Shepard, Mercy Chickering
- Spouse: Martha Bacon
- Death: Foxboro, MA, 5 Apr 1809
.
Died at the age of 105 years 1 month and 11 days. According to the GRG centenarian research group's data on verified early centenarians (people who lived to 100 or older), he would be the first man to verifiably reach the age of 105, and would also have held the title of "oldest man in the world" from the time of his death until 25 years later when Pierre Darcourt surpassed Shepard's age in the spring of 1834.
He married three times. The first two Unions both ended when the bride died within three years of the wedding. The final marriage to a Miss Martha Bacon, though, lasted for 69 years and produced ten children. He died in his grandson's house in Attleboro on April 5th 1809 according to the New England Historical & Genealogical Register. It is also noted in that publication that one of Shepard's daughters lived to be 95 years old.
