History of Henry County indicated that; "He had devoted his life to farming and milling and his industry, energy, and reliability were factors in his success". His move to Vermillion County had been made in the fall of 1835 after the death of his wife Elizabeth Van Meter at their previous home in Pickaway County, Ohio on September 5th of 1835.
