∼J.O. Smith, 77, of Scottsbluff, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, NE.

J.O. was born July 22, 1935 in Buffalo, Arkansas to Chester L. and Emma Lou (White) Smith. He entered the United States Navy in 1954 and served until 1958. He spent time aboard the USS Boxer during this time.

J.O. married Karen L. Schmidt on February 16, 1959 and to this union two children were born: Kerry and Kimberly.

J.O. was involved in irrigation and water management. He served several areas and worked in various positions within the field from 1960 to 1994.

J.O. was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Grace Chapel. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, walking, and traveling, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

The United States Navy will provide military honors.

Preceding J.O. in death were his parents, Chester and Emma Lou; and sisters, Pauline Shakelford and Marie Harvey.

Cremation, burial unknown.
