- There are different viewpoints as to the father of this John Standiford. Robert Barnes says in his book, Baltimore County Families, that he was William. A William Stanfort witnessed the will of Forker Frissell in St. Mary's County on December 13, 1661. Mr. Barnes assumed that it was this William who moved to Baltimore County and was John's father. The first evidence of a William in Baltimore County is in June 1687, when a William surveyed 104 acres in Hopewell. However, this theory leaves many Standiford family members in the Baltimore and Virginia without a connection. Many researchers have concluded that the family was originally from York Co, Virginia. In Virginia Wills 1691-1694 York County there is the Will of John Sandifor dated January 25, 1691 thought by some to be the progenitor. However, this is not the case. Check out the newly posted lineage of this John Sandifor from York Co., VA.
