About John Martin Super

John Super, 73, a life-long resident of Flensburg died at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 1956, at St. Gabriel's hospital in Little Falls, MN.

He was born September 15, 1883, the fifth child of Martin and Paulina (Golebiewski) Super on the family farm immediately southwest of Flensburg. (Martin and Paulina were among the original settlers in the area having immigrated from Poland.) John married his wife Elizabeth Wielinski in the Sacred Heart Church, Flensburg, on June 28, 1910.

John was a successful businessman, having started and operated in Flensburg a hardware store, grocery store (with his half-brother Martin Super), potato warehouse and he was the chief stockholder in the local bank which, as was common, failed during the Great Depression. But John partially used his own funds to insure that no account holders lost their money due to the bank failure. Before the Depression John also ran a chain of additional potato warehouses as far north as Pequot Lakes, MN.

John was survived by his wife and following children: Simon J. and Benedict, Flensburg; Florian, San Diego, CA; Jerome, Mentor, MN; Mrs. Lawrence (Mary Jane) Then, St. Stephen, MN, and Betty Lou Super, St. Paul, MN. There were 11 grandchildren. Brothers and sisters were Martin, Charles, Edward, Mike and Mrs. John (Anna) Karpinski, Flensburg; Rose Koroll, St. Otto's Home, Little Falls; Mrs. Joseph (Mary Ann) Pepin, Long Prairie; Frank, Little Falls; Louis, St. Paul; Tony, Castro Valley, CA; Simon V., St. Cloud; and Stanley, Bagdad, AZ.

Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church, Flensburg, the Rev. Paul Otto officiating. Buriel was in the parish cemetery.
