

Dr Thwaites obtained a patent and authored on "The Application of Aluminium to Dental Purposes"in 1856 which is available in Wellcome Library, London. - Amateur cryptographer, claimed to have invented a new cryptographic system in an article that was published in "The Journal of the Society of Arts"in 1854. It was explained by Charles Babbage, which was a famous code breaker in mechanical computer designs, that is was actually a verion of the Vigenere cypher that has been around for 300 years, and was challenged by Thwaites to break his code, which he did, but this was never published.
He lived at 2 Dover Place, Clifton, and died on 23rd Feb 1865.
In the 1871 census his wife Minerva was living of interest from money with her 3 children. Minerva's death was recorded in Briston in Dec 1873
