Misidentifications

This John Turner is not to be confused with the John Turner, "Mayflower" passenger, who died in the winter of 1620/21. Unfortunately, it appears that some of the information listed in this profile for John Turner, II, is the result of just such a confusion. As a result, both the date and place of death for this John Turner, II, are probably wrong. If we ignore those profiles elsewhere which seem to mistake this John Turner for the "Mayflower" Turner, it seems likely that John Turner, II, died around 1600 somewhere in England, probably Kent. But more research is needed to confirm this date and place.

Wikipedia has an article on the "Mayflower" Turner which has information that does not match that of this John Turner. There is no way to identify these two Turners as the same person.

• The "Mayflower" Turner was born about 1590, whereas John Turner, II, was born in 1564 (according to this profile).

• The supposed birthplaces of both Johns are different. The "Mayflower" Turner is thought to have been born in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England; whereas the birthplace of John Turner, II, is thought to have been Kent, England (his son Humphrey is said to have been born in Devonshire, Kent, England since he was buried in the Men of Kent Cemetery).

• The "Mayflower" Turner only had three children: two sons (born about 1615 and who died with him that first winter of 1620/21 when they were about 5 years old), and a daughter (named Elizabeth, born around 1619, and who came to Salem some years later. This John Turner, II, however had two sons both of whom were born years earlier (1593 & c 1600) and who lived longer (dying in 1646 & 1673) and who had children. But John Turner, II, had no daughter (at least none listed here).

• The "Mayflower" Turner died in Plymouth, whereas the other Turner could not have died in Plymouth since that would have required him to have been on the "Mayflower" (which he clearly was not). Other profiles elsewhere list John Turner, II, as having died in England around 1600.
