Served in Philadelphia County Militia during Revolutionary War, more specifically in the Sixth Company (under Captain John Levering), Seventh Battalian, year 1781, Philadelphia County (Roxborough Township), Pennsylvania Militia, Sixth Class (according to the Sons of the American Revolution Membership Application for George Washington Boyer in 1926).

From HR Johnson:

RELATIONSHIP: Naturalized June 21, 1743 (see 2nd series, vol.17, p.107, PA Archives). Was great great grandfather of George Widner who went down on the Titanic, and great grandfather of P.A.B. Widener (from Carol Wells notes, Pray book p.58, and notes by Geo. W. Boyer dated 3 Jun 1938). Died of yellow fever. Deed Book "G.W.R.", No. 9, page 208, says he was formerly of Penn Township, Philadelphia County, and spells his name as "Christian". It is believed that he was originally of the "Reformed" faith, or Calvinists, like his brothers and son-in-law John Pray, but became affiliated with St. Michael's and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church through his two marriages. A deed dated 18 Mar 1824 from John Whitener to Charles, then both of the Northern Liberties Township, Philadelphia County, gives the family line down from Christopher Weidner. When Christopher died intestate from yellow fever, he was living on the west side of 3rd Street and the south side of Poplar Lane (now Street), having 25 front feet and 61.5 feet of depth back to Charlotte Street.

REVOLUTIONARY WAR: The British occupied his house as a billet during the occupation of Philadelphia in 1777-1778 because his claim for 24 pounds 15 shillings damages caused by them is noted in vol. 25, page 549, Penn'a. Magazine--Pa. Historical Society, publisher. Served in Phila. County Militia during Revolutionary War from Roxborough Township along with members of the Rittenhouse family in 7th Battalion, 6th Company, in 1781 (there called Christian Weidner) [?--age 63?]. Captain of that Company was John Livering. According to Sons of the American Revolution application (of George Washington Boyer), "Private in the Sixth Company (under Captain John Levering), Seventh Battalion, year 1781, Philadelphia County (Boxborough Township), Pennsylvania Militia, Sixth Class".

RELATIONSHIP: Per Boyer, Christopher settled in Northern Liberties 1765-1777, in Roxborough Twp. 1779-1782 as a farmer, then Penn Twp., then back to Northern Liberties Twp. where he became a brickmaker. Deed Book I, 17, page 207 shows that he had also owned other lands in the Northern Liberties as early as 2 Aug 1765.

NEWSLETTER: In 1989 a "W D N R FAMILY LETTER" was started by Lee Widner, 1906 Ashland Way, San Jose CA 95130, (408)374-5700. He published our material in vol. 1 #2 in September, 1989. In Vol.3 #1 dated Jan 1991 he published the paper prepared by George W. Boyer dated 3 Jun 1938 which he obtained fromCarol McConnell Wells.

RELATIONSHIP: Ltr Meyers to HRJ 22 Oct 1993 contains a photocopy of p. 60-61 of "Palatine Emigrants of the 18th Century" by Friedrich Krebs, translated by Don Yoder, originally from "Nordpfaelzer Geschichtsverein: Beitraege zur Heimatgeschichte, vol. 49, no. 1 (Mar 1969), 20-21. The periodical is published at Rockenhausen in the Palatinate. The village of Odenheim is near Kreuznach, north of Kaiserslautern. It recounts information about Leonhard Weydner of Odenheim and his wife Susanna Margaretha, it is said of the son Leonhard Weydner, Jr., that he went to America at the end of April 1741 and is 53 years old. Of Johann Henrich Weydner, a son of the first marriage to Anna Margaretha Hofmann, it is said he was a shoemaker who emigrated to America in 1734 and is 44 years old. Information on other Weydners is provided, none John Christopher.
