Birth registered in the District of Hindmarsh by his mother of Carrondown on 9 July 1883. At age 7 he survived fatal house fire in 3-12-1890 that claimed the life of his younger brother Walter

WW1: Enlisted Australian Army 1195 on 14 January 1915 at Oaklands, South Australia as Private 3rd Light Horse Regiment 8th Reinforcement.

Adelaide SA on board HMAT Morea on 26 August 1915. Taken on strength on 25 October 1915 at Gallipoli. Disembarked Alexandria ex Oxfordshire 15 December 1915.

Admitted to 3rd Australian Hospital Heliopolis with

Jaundice on 13 December 1915. Returned to Australia Per "Suffolk" ex sic for 3 months Change 19 January 1916. Embarked Adelaide "Clan MacCopquodal e" 5 February 1917 with 24th Reinforcements 3rd Light Horse Regiment. Disembarked Suezon 12 March 1917. Attended School of Instruction from 26 March 1917 to 13 June 1917.

Transferred to 3rd Light Horse Regiment on 28 June 1917, Gunner. Admitted to hospital with Diarrhoea November 1917. Admitted to hospital with Malaria in 28 June 1918. Returned to Austral ia 16 March 1919 on "Euripides" from Egypt. Discharged 14 June 1919.

Total Service 4 years 152 days, Service Abroad 3 years 240 days. Received 19 14/15 Star Medal, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
