John O. "J.O." Young, 80, died at a Nampa nursing home Monday following an extended illness. Mr Young was born Sept. 15, 1894 at Silver City, Idaho. He lived in Oreana in Owyhee County until age 11. He then moved to Nampa where he made his home until 1971 when he moved to Kuna. He served with the U.S. Army during World War I. He married LaVerda Read of Oreana April 30, 1920 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1963. He worked for the Morrison Knudsen Co. for 25 years, working in all the western states and in Brazil. In 1946 he formed the J.O. Young and Sons Construction Co. and in 1959 he retired. He was a high priest of the Kuna Third Ward L.D.S. Church and served as an elders quorum president in the Nampa Third Ward. He was a member of the Nampa Planning Board for 10 years and a member of War Eagle Barracks No. 459, Veterans of World War I.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. LaVerda Young, Kuna, three sons, J.O. Young Jr., Nampa, H. Dale Young, Salt Lake City, and Read Young, Nampa, one daughter, Mrs. S.E. (Carol) Garrison, Kuna; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Newman and Kathleen Groves, both of Nampa; 27 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and one granddaughter.
