The Weed Family of Jonas Weed, IV

The Weeds (Weed) brothers who came to this county in the Winthrop Fleet of 1630 were Jonas and John and probably Henry Frank Weed. The brothers settled Watertown, Massachusetts. Jonas lived there until May 29, 1635. He was one of six men to leave and go to Wethersfield, Connecticut. The Weed brothers came from Sandwick Northhamptonshire, England, some sixty miles northwest of London.

The Wintrop fleet of 1630 was composed of eleven ships. They sailed for New England in June of 1630. Of 700 passengers about 200 died during the trip and about 100 returned to England, leaving 400 colonists in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Jonas Weeds is listed on the passage list of the ship Arbella, which was the Admiral Ship or flag ship. The Arbella was a ship of 350 tons, and was manned by a crew of 52 seamen. Captain Peter Milburne was its master. The cost of the trip for adults was five pounds.

Jonas Weed's home in Wetherfield in 1640 was at the extreme northern end of the eastern side of the present High Street. Later he moved to Stamford, Connecticut.

Jonas Weed born England about 1610, died Stamford Connecticut before June 5, 1676 when the inventory of his esate was taken. He married Mary ________who died before March 10, 1689/90. Jonas and Mary had ten children. One of which was Jonas 2 Weed Jr.

Jonas 2 Weed, Jr. was born at Stamford, Connecticut about 1649 and died Nov. 19, 1704. On Nov. 16, 1676/7 he married Bothia Holly, born Jan 6, 1655 and died Dec. 1713. He was a shoemaker by trade. His son was Jonas 3 Weed:

Jonas 3 Weed was born July 26, 1678 at Stamford, Connecticut and he died there October 24, 1753. On Jan. 20, 1703/04 he married Sarah Waterbury who was born Jan. 10, 1684 and died Feb. 5, 1726/7. They had Epenetus Weed.

Epenetus Weed was born Sept. 20, 1712 at Stamford, connecticut and died there in 1763. He married three times. His third wife at Stamford, Feb. 22, 1758 was Sarah Slason born August 9, 1739 and died March 4, 1763. They had three children one of which was Prudence Weed, born March 24, 1782. She married at Stamford William Walmsley.
