About Jonathan Newcomb
405 Jonathan Newcomb (Peter 2, Francis 1), born in Braintree, Mar. 1, 1685-6, " yeoman ;" m/ Deborah, who d. Nov. 1780, ae. 95; he settled in Braintree, where he owned several tracts of land; removed, March 1728, to Norton, Mass., where he afterward resided. He was field driver 1711, constable 1724, and fence-viewer 1726 ; was dismissed from Braintree chh. to Norton, 1734. His 1st purchase of land in Norton was made Jan. 22, 1727, 52 acres for £360; in 1728 he bought 35 acres for £245; in 1742, 70 acres for £200. He served in the memorable expedition against Louisbourg, on Cape Breton; d. before Nov. 1745, while in the service.
By his Will of Feb. 26, 1744, he gave to wife Deborah improvement of all estate; to sons Jonathan, Joseph, and Benjamin, Ms. each; to Samuel, £75 when 21 years old; Deborah, Judith, and Sarah, £25 each; to William (the executor), residue, etc., and to pay legacies; signed by his mark; proved Nov. 11,1745; inventory £197 18s. 8d., including apparel, artillery, furniture for trooping, etc.
