After spending several years in Illinois, he returned to Maryland. The 1860 U.S.Census shows that Jonathan Rinehart was living in the household of his son, Henry Rinehart, in Funkstown District, Washington County, Maryland. He was one of the original members of the Bethel United Brethren Church of Chewsville, and he is buried in the cemetery there.
