About Jonathan Knight Roberts

Jonathan Knight Roberts served in the Confederate Army as a Private in

Company E [sic], 1st Florida Cavalry which later became Company E, 9th

Florida Regiment. He served in the Confederate Army from 1861 to 1865.

He applied for a pension while living in New Smyrna, Florida. He

received his pension and after his death his wife Mary Alford Roberts

received a widow's pension which was approved in 1908. She received

this pension until her death in 1920.

Captain Harvey's Company became Company D, First Florida Cavalry. In this unit, our ancestor William R. Alford entered as a Private and ultimately became a 1st Lieut. Our ancestor Jonathon K. Roberts served as the company musician. Also, F. P. Fleming (not our ancestor, but a native of Panama Park, Duval County, Florida) served as a 1st Lieut. F. P. Fleming later served as the fifteenth Governor of Florida from January 8, 1889 to January 3, 1893.
