Family
From “ Murray, John (d.1510)“ Dictionary of National Biography, 1885-1900, Volume 39. by Thomas Finlayson Henderson.
MURRAY, JOHN (d. 1510), laird of Falahill, the so-called 'out law' of the old border ballad, was the son of Patrick Murray, sixth of Falahill. ... Murray was slain in 1510 by Andrew Ker of Gateschaw and Thomas Scott, brother of Philip Scott of Aidschaw.
By his wife Janet Forrester (Exchequer Rolls, x.732, 757), widow of Schaw of Knockhill (ib. p. 727), he had, besides other children, four sons;
- John, who succeeded him;
- James, who succeeded John;
- William, ancestor of the Murrays of Romano; and
- Patrick, who became laird of Broadmeadows.
It was his son John—not he, as usually stated–who was married to Lady Margaret Hepburn, daughter of the first Earl of Bothwell.
