About Jordan Haimoana Briggs

Landles Ropiha, aged 17, has been found guilty of the murder of his girlfriend's 11-month-old baby, Jordan Briggs. He received a mandatory life sentence. The Crown said that Ropiha, from Beach Haven, had swung, flung or thrown the infant against a hard surface causing massive skull fractures and brain damage on November 26. Source: 4theKids.

A teenager beat his girlfriend's 11-month-old son to death, the High Court at Auckland heard yesterday. In his opening address, crown prosecutor Philip Hamlin said Landles Haimona Ropiha, aged 17, was 181cm tall and weighed 102kg. "It was an unequal battle," Mr Hamlin told the court. "There is no suggestion that the child could have in any way provoked or defended himself from the attack." Ropiha, who was aged 16 at the time, is accused of murdering partner Katrina Briggs' infant son Jordan Haimoana Briggs last November 26 at his parents' home in Beach Haven. Mr Hamlin said the child suffered skull fractures and brain damage. "The degree of force used was equivalent to what you would see in a high-speed motor accident," he told the jury. Mr Hamlin said there would be medical evidence of numerous blows to Jordan's head and other parts of his body. At the time of the incident only Ropiha, his girlfriend and a friend of Ropiha's, Robert Paul, were at the house. Ropiha told police that he heard a noise and went to his parents' room, where he found the child lying on the floor with a video recorder beside him. But Mr Hamlin said the injuries could not be explained by a fall from a bed or even a video recorder landing on Jordan's head. That would also not explain the number of forceful impacts to his head. It was the crown case that Jordan had been beaten. There were a number of assaults, resulting in bruises to the face, tearing to the ears and fatal injuries to the back of the head. Mr Hamlin said Jordan had been swung or flung against a "blunt and unforgiving surface". Source: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/baby-beaten-says-crown/XFDPMVU5UCFDKR...
