About Jose Ramon Carrillo
Ramon was born in San Diego and baptized at the San Gabriel Mission. He married Maria Vicente Sepulveda in 1847 at the Mission. Together, they had nine children. He was active in resisting the takeover of Alta California by the Americans. He was murdered, shot in the back.

Ramon Vejar, nephew of Ramon Carillo, signed a deposition dated 11 June 1864. he stated ". . . I was at the funeral of Carillo, at the graveyard of Palomares. . . " This deposition is contained in Scrapbook #14 compiled by Judge benjamin Hayes, deposited in the Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley, CA. Inscription: [at Rancho Cucamonga]
