About Joseph Alexander Acker
When Joseph Alexander Acker was born on July 24, 1837, in West Blocton, Alabama, his father, James, was 33 and his mother, MARY 'Polly' (Hull) Argro/Acker was 30. Joseph grew up on a farm in Bibb County, Alabama. He met and married his first love Permelia Jane (Miller) Acker and they were blessed with one daughter together Mary Agnes. When the war between the states broke out, he joined 44th Alabama infantry Regiment CSA, Military unit- Company: D, in Montevallo, AL.. He returned home after the war to his beloved Permelia just to find out their life together would be cut short with her untimely death. He then met and married Zillie Ann (Mitchell) Acker in 1876. They were blessed with eight children together (Joanna, Ringold, William O., Bruce A, Harris A., John B, Dovie L.J., and Adolphus C.). He died on January 25, 1904, in Shelby County, Alabama, at the age of 66, and was buried in the Acker family Cemetery in Woodstock, Alabama.
