Martha had divorced Joseph by the the time she was 52 years old, because the census of 1860 her marriage status was divorced and going by the name Martha Patsy Sharp. She was still shown as divorced in the census of 1880.

I have seen his full name as "William Joseph Allen" in this tree and other trees. So... does he later drop the first name William for some reason and go by Joseph Allen as recorded in the marriage records or is there another brother named Joseph Allen besides the William and Hugh Hr. ?

1. Mary unknown last name married circa 1789 and she died in about 1820 in Virginia. This record shows that Daniel Allen to be the only son in this marriage.

2. Jane Proague married May 13, 1800 in Rockbridge, Virginia. This record shows that Jane, Samuel,Archibald, John and Ann as the children of this marriage. She was born in 1781 and died in 1839.

3. Martha Patsy Sharp married on August 14, 1846 in Campbell, Tennessee.This record shows that of Martha's five children, only Elizabeth and Hiram are the children of Joseph Allen. The other children are listed as father unknown. Should this profile show the other children as step children?
