About Joseph F. Berry
From rootsweb:
Joseph was named after his brother Joe who died on the Meir Expedition. Joe was with the Parsons Calvary unit.
Berry book. He's on pgs 717-719. Soldier Names http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/index.html
It does mention in the book that the major engagement was the capture of Bayou Boeuf Crossing on June 24 1863 by the Federal Army and seems likely this was the day on which Joe Berry lost his life, but we cannot be certain. It says he probably was laid to rest in an anonymous grave near the battle site. Joseph was killed in battle at Bayou Boeuf, Louisiana, at the age of 18. He was listed with 12th Regiment of Texas Calvary, also known as Parson's brigade. Apparently when he joined up, he was in what was know as the Texas-Arizona Volunteer Cavalry. The company he was in was attached at some point to the 12th Regiment. Zen ZenCity@aol.com
