Joseph Blakely was the 2nd child of 8 parented by John Blakely and Dicy Ann Taylor of Virginia. He was born about 1830 in Ohio shortly after the family moved there from Virginia.
Joseph's family moved to Delaware co., Indiana about 1836 or 37, where he grew up.
Joseph married Mariah E Murphy on 29 Sep 1853 at Delaware co., Indiana. Together they had 4 children over a decade. It is assumed that Mariah died in the late 1860's. In the 1870 census, Joseph is a Widower and married to Catherine.
Joseph and Catherine (Barker) Wilson married about 1868. They had both lost their spouses, so there may have been a mutual benefit to the marriage. They had 4 children over the following decade. Catherine had a child by her first marriage who lived with them.
They all lived on a farm in Richland Twp. Jay co., Indiana. as is shown in the 1870 and 1880 census'.
