Birth: 1602, England Death: Aug. 14, 1688 Hartford Hartford County Connecticut, USA

He came from England around 1633-34 and settled first in Newtown (Cambridge), Mass. where he was given about two acres of land at the west end. On March 4, 1635, he was a freeman of Cambridge.

Under the leadership of Rev. Thomas Hooker, he removed from Cambridge to Hartford in 1636 and was a founder & original proprietor of that settlement, his name being on the Founder's Monument in this cemetery (see picture at right).

In the Hartford land inventory of 1639/40 "Joseph Eason" held nineteen parcels of land which included upland, land in the little meadow, land in the suth meadow, land in the Great Swamp, land on the east side of the Great River, a parcel of woodland, and several parcels he had purchased from various people. His homelot was on the south side of the road in 1639.

His last will, dated January 20, 1687/8, bequeathed to his son, JOSEPH, forty shillings plus the land he had already been given. Of his two sons-in-law, John Skiner was given forty shillings and Robert Sherly [Shirley], ten pounds. His four children, John Easton, Joseph Eaton, Mary Skiner & Sarah Sherly, were to divide all houshold good equally. John was to get his father's three guns, two swords & two belts, his great Bible and a divinity book by Thomas Goodwin. John Easton was bequeathed all the rest of his houses, leases, lands, tenements and goods in Hartford or elsewhere, and to be the sole executor. His inventory was taken September 1, 1688 and totalled 20 pounds, four shillings, one pence excluding real estate. His wife whose name is not known must have predeceased him.
