About Joseph Elias Bacon

Joe was the prototype of "Joe Garner" a character in some of Ernest Hemingway's early Nick Adams stories about Michigan.

He was very fond of the Hemingways and recalls the day in the summer of 1898 when he showed Dr. Clarence Hemingway a lot on Walloon Lake, which the doctor bought from Bacon's father shortly thereafter.
