Biography

Joseph Fowler Jr., son of Joseph Fowler and Martha (Kimball) Fowler, was born about 1647 in Wenham, Massachusetts. [1] In his youth, he probably resided with his grandfather Richard Kimball. His uncle Richard Kimball jr., having settled in Wenham, as early as 1656, he appears to have followed him to that place, where he married, and continued to reside during his lifetime. He was a brickmaker by trade. [1]

He married in Wenham about 1677, Elizabeth Hutton[2] [3] the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Hutton of Wenham. [1] The children of Joseph and Elizabeth (Hutton) Fowler were: [1]

Elizabeth, b. in 1678; m. Samnel Kimball, jr.
Joseph, b. 15th, 1st mo., 1679; m. Susannah Dennis.
Richard, b. ; m. Miriam Balch.
In 1692 he, with Thomas and Sarah Jacob, gave testimony in the defense of victims of witch trials. [1]

In 1714 (22 April) he was appointed administrator, of the estate of his father-in-law, Richard Hutton of Wenham: "Joseph Fowler, in right of Elizabeth Hutton", written at the bottom of the bond. [1]

He died intestate, in Wenham, 10 Feb 1717-18 [4] [5], and administration on his estate was granted to his son, Joseph Fowler jr., and son-in-law Samuel Kimball, jointly 13 Mar 1717-18. [1]

Birth

Birth: ABT 1645/6, Ipswich, Essex Co., Massachusetts.
Some of the proof of Joseph's relationship to Hester Fowler Rolfe Collins (his paternal aunt, sister of his father Joseph Sr) and to the sons of Ezra Rolfe (Hester's wife prior to Robert Collins) comes from Joseph's testimony at the Ipswich Quarterly Court of March 1672. When testifying about a horse, brothers Ezra & Daniel Rolfe (sons of Ezra Sr) called their step-father Robert Collins "father Collins" and their testimony was followed immediately by Joseph's about the same horse of his "uncle Collins".[6]
