About Joseph Fried
Joseph Fried, 88, 1603 Ninth Avenue NW, Mandan, died July 1, 2000 in a Mandan care center. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Joseph Fried was born on June 5, 1912 in Mandan, the son of Jacob and Eva (Aman) Fried. He was raised and educated in Crown Butte.
On Nov. 7, 1938, he married Ida Roller in Sheffield. Joseph farmed northwest of Mandan until his retirement in 1975 in which he raised grain and cattle. After his retirement, he and his wife moved into Mandan. Joseph enjoyed socializing with members and friends. His involvement with community included membership in the Moose and Eagles Club, the St. Vincent Verein, Knights of Columbus and Golden Age. His interests were many and varied, bowling and playing cards were part of his indoor activities. Dancing and listening to old time music was very relaxing for him. But most of all he cherished the time being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Ida; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sandra, Austin, Texas; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Marcy Schmidt, Fargo, Clare and George Schmidt, West Fargo, Rita and Jim Latham, Edina, Minn., Madonna and Wally Steckler, Mandan, and Linda and Myron Berreth, Mandan; 24 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; one brother, Peter and Margaret Fried, Mandan; and two sisters, Sister Ralphine Fried, Bismarck, and Sister Clement Fried, Duluth, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Timothy; two brothers, Ralph and Jerome; and three sisters, Odelia, Clementine and Sister Lucilda; and one grandson, Grant Kaatz
