Will of Joseph Goare of the Parish of Christ Church in the county of Middlesex being of sick and weak, dated December 6, 1726. Unto my tw o daughters Elizabeth Goalden and Sarah Anderson, each one shilling. Un to my
daughter Mary Shelton, one Negro boy, Robin. Unto my lovin g wife, all my land during her natural life. After her decease, all my lan d unto my son John, and if he died, my son William and if he dies wit hout heirs unto my son John. All the rest of my estate equally divide d between my loving wife and my six children John, William, Henry, Jose , Ann, and Lucretia, each to possess their part as they marry or com e to the age of one and twenty. My wifes part shall be in text of her power.

The Joseph Gore who was born 8 April 1651 was the son of Richard Gore and Phoebe Hughes who were married 30 November 1639 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Richard Gore came to Massachusetts in April 1635 on the ship "Elizabeth and Ann." He was age 17 at the time of his arrival, indicating that his year of birth was late 1617/early 1618. Richard died 29 September 1683 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Ref: Pioneers of Massachusetts, page 193, by Charles Henry Pope.

This wil l lists his wife as Lucretia; A daughter Mary, listed in t his will as "Mary Skelton (sic Shelton) along with the othe r children: daughters, Elizabeth Goalden, Sarah Anderson; s ons, Jose, Henry, Wm. and John. This second wife (if she i s such) may be Lucretia Tuggle; b. 1694, Middlesex Co., VA ; m. Joseph Goare 16 Feb 1707/08; she also married John Cro ckford 22 Nov 1728, Middlesex Co., VA.

From Ted Gill: In MDSX, 1687, per VA MAG 8:189, in a militi a call, "The persons whose names are underwritten are by th is Court thought of Sufficient Abilities to find a man, hor se, and Armer," Joseph Goare's name appears.

DB 2:505-509, MDSX, 01 Feb 1691/2, between "Joseph Goare o f Middx. County Plantr: & Mary his Wife one of the Daughter s and Coheires of David Allison late of Middlesex County" a nd Captain William Daniell of Middlesex Co, Gent. David Al lison died intestate possessed of three tracts of land, on e of 360 acres being in Rapanhannock County. David Allison 't daughters were Ann, now wife of Edward Clerke (Clark), C atherine now wife of Benjamin Marsh, Mary, now wife of Jose ph Goare, and Elizabeth, now wife of Henry Goare. They ha d made a verbal agreement to choose one fourth of the land s each. Edward Clerke and Joseph Goare had made their choi ces in right of their wives of all the lands in Rappahannoc k County. Joseph and Mary Goare, now being "so seased in f fee taile in one full fourth part," are selling their shar e for L37.10s Sterling to William Daniell, and they signe d the document. Recorded 26 Oct 1692.

James Dudley, of Christ Church , Middlesex Co., deeded som e land to Joseph Gore 06 May 1696.

!Robert Dudley, son of Richard Dudley, was major of militi a in Middlesex county and one of the justices. From 1685 t o 1697 he was one of the burgesses for the county. He had p roperty both in England and Virginia. His will dated Octobe r 14, 1701 was proved November 3, 1701. He left a brother A mbrose Dudley, two sons Robert and George, and two daughter s Avarilla and Elizabeth. Virginia Biography, pg 226.

On December 3, 1683, Joseph Goare petitioned that his mother, Margaret Ascough be appointed his guardian. On September 1685, Henry Goare made a similar petition. Virginia law considered anyo ne under the age of 14 a minor. This would make Joseph born between 1666 and 1669 and Henry between 1668 and 1671.
