Lieutenant Colonel Joseph J. "Joe" Hoffman (Ret.), age 92, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on July 14, 1921 in Jefferson County, Indiana. He was the son of the late, Matthew Joseph, Sr. and Clara Gertrude Hunger Hoffman. He resided all of his life in the Madison community and was a 1939 graduate of Madison High School. Joe had attended the University of Maryland earlier in life. He was inducted into the United States Army on February 13, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky. He rose to the rank of First Sergeant serving in the 380th Field Artillery Battalion 102nd Infantry Division during World War II. He had served in the battles and campaigns at Rhineland and Central Europe and was honorably discharged on December 29, 1945 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. He received the American Theater Ribbon; the EAME Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant Colonel. Joe was the owner of Hoffman Construction for fifty years and was a masonry general contractor. Joe began working in Real Estate and was partner in the Henderson Hoffman Realty Company and later he owned and operated Century 21 Real Estate, Inc. from 1982-1996. Joe then owned and operated Hoffman Realty until he retired in December 2007. Joe was proud to have been a realtor for over sixty years. Joe was united in marriage on February 14, 1978 in Carrollton, Kentucky to the love of his life, Kathe J. Blacklock. Joe was a devoted Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Pop Pop. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Boy Scouts of America, life member of the Madison Elks Lodge No. 524, Madison Moose Lodge No. 765, Madison Chamber of Commerce and had served on the industry board, Jefferson County Board of Realtors, Knights of Columbus and the Madison Rotary Club. Joe had attended Trinity United Methodist Church in downtown Madison with his wife. Joe was a proud charter member of the No. Five Fire Company in Madison, Indiana. Joe enjoyed mowing grass, working hard, hunting, fishing and a great business opportunity. Joe died on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at 12:15 AM at the Hickory Creek of Madison in Madison, Indiana.

A LOVING FAMILY Joe will be missed by his loving wife, Kathe J. Blacklock Hoffman of Madison, Indiana; his loving sons, Joseph Michael "Mike" Hoffman and his wife, Judy of Madison, Indiana and Ret. Col. Stephan C. Hoffman and his wife, Trisha of Paragon, Indiana; his loving daughters, Kande J. McKay and her husband, Phil, Karie L. Seel and her husband, Troy of Madison, Indiana; his loving brothers, John Hoffman and his wife, Neva of Madison, Indiana and Clem Hoffman and his wife, Joann of Madison, Indiana; his grandchildren, Valerie, John Michael "Reed". Stephanie, Erin, Celeste,Ethen, Collin, Mason, Lukas & James; his sister in laws, Lena Hoffman of Madison, Indiana and Louise Butler Hoffman of Milton, Kentucky; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew Joseph, Sr. and Clara Gertrude Hunger Hoffman, his sister, Marcella Clara "Sis" Hoffman, his brothers, Matthew J. Hoffman, Jr., Robert C. "Bob" Hoffman, Herman E. Hoffman, and Maurice O. Hoffman.

FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 25, 2013, at 1:00 pm, by Father Christopher Craig and Col. Stephan C. Hoffman, (Ret.) at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive Madison, Indiana. Interment will occur in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana
