About Joseph Hofmann

Obituary: Albany Enterprise, Albany, Minnesota, November 1913

The death of Joseph Hofmann which was briefly announced in last week's Enterprise, removes from our midst one of Albany's most highly respected citizens. His illness was prolonged for the past few years but he was able to be around most of the time until five days prior to his death when he was taken seriously ill and passed away on the evening of November 14, 1913. The cause of his demise was Lucemia [sic]. Joseph Hofmann was born on Dec. 5, 1862, in Triebitz, Bohemia, and came to this country with his parents when he was 17 years old, settling down at Albany. In later years he opened up a shoemaker shop, which trade he learned in his native land, adding to it he engaged in a harness shop also at which business he worked until two years ago when he took sick. Deceased was highly and well liked among his large circle of friends and held prominent parts in church work. The beloved husband and father leaves to mourn his loss a large family and wife. Those who survive are eight sons, Frank, Benedict, Ludwig, Andrew, Rudolph, Leo, Dominick and Berthold, the latter is the youngest and five years old; three daughters, Mrs. Anton Gruenke, Mrs. Alois Lenartz [sic] and Mrs. Andrew Pratschner, all of whom are residents of the county and were present at the funeral. Mr. Hofmann was wedded to Anna Auer on May 26, 1885 and to whom were born fourteen children. The business of the deceased will be carried on as before by his oldest son Frank.
