About Joseph Hyrum Angell Holbrook

FATHER OF LOCAL MAN PASSES AWAY
(Davis County Clipper)
Joseph Hyrum Holbrook passed away after an illness of two weeks, at the home of his daughter, Mrs S.G. Thurgood of Bountiful, on Sunday morning, June 23.
He was born at Bountiful, on the 8th day of February 1854, and resided here until he was 22 years of age, when he went to Arizona with a company of pioneers, sent by President Brigham Young and in charge of Lott Smith. He remained there but about one year when he returned to Bountiful, and was soon after married to Catherine Cooper.
They lived here for a few years after their marriage and then moved north to settle at star Valley, Wyoming. There they had much pioneering to do , as they were among the first few families to locate in that Valley. while he resided there he served eight years as bishop of the auburn ward.
He engaged in the stock raising business during the twenty years he remained there.
The family then returned to make their home at Bountiful, where they have since resided. His wife preceded him in death by several years.
The funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 26, at two p.m. in the Bountiful First ward tabernacle, Brother David Tolman, presiding. Those who spoke were Amos Cook, Hyrum D. Clark, John H. Burninghan Parley P Willey and Judge Melvin Harris, of Logan. Nephi Hepworth and wife rendered a duet, and Lawrence Sardoni a violin solo. Three selections were given by a quartet from the choir. The opening prayer was offered by Thomas Waddoups and the benediction by Henry Wood. President Richard Stringham dedicated the grave in the Bountiful cemetery.
The following children survive him: Joseph L Holbrook of Mareysville, Idaho; Clarence M. Holbrook of Afton, Wyo; Mary M Thurgood, Edith H. Hepworth, Clara H. Bryson and Celnorah H. Heath of Bountiful also twenty-six children
The family wish to extend their sincere appreciation to all who assisted during their bereavement.
