Virginia Gleanings in England, p 43, Lothrop Withington, database:

Joseph John Jackman appears to have settled in Surry county, Va., about the year 1700. . .On June 6, 1700, Joseph John Jackman, gent., of Surry county, and Elizabeth, his wife, sold to John Wilson, of London, merchant, for 30,000 lb of tobacco, 400 acares on Lawnes creek, Surry. This land probably was the property of Mrs. Jackman. . .Joseph John Jackman was appointed a justice of Surry in 1702, and sheriff in 1705

Joseph John Jackman came to Virginia with Elizabeth and Matthew Jackman in 1702. He came from Surry, England not Virginia. His will was probated in Dent, Canterbury 1714 and I got copy of will from UK. It is written in OLD English and hard to read. Joseph John was sheriff of Surry, Virginia about 1710 but he later returned to England and died there in 1714. I will add my sources later. (from lorettakilpatrick1 on

Not the father of Thomas Jackman, Sr.
