About Joseph Kingsbury

One of 3 brothers who came across in july 1630 on the Talbot.

The proposed English ancestors of the brothers Joseph and John Kingsbury of Dedham, Massachusetts has been taken from THE GENEALOGY OF THE DESCENDANTS of HENRY KINGSBURY of IPSWICH AND HAVERHILL, MASSACHUSETTS, by Frederick John Kingsbury, Hartford Press, 1905. There are many given names repeated over and over in several generations in that work and open to mis-interpretation of the family relationships and further verifications are needed to establish if any corrections are necessary.

Joseph Kingsbury was born 1600 in Kingsborough or Watertown, England. (or another source says b Boxford, Suffolk Co, Eng) He came to America in 1628 or after 1630 and settled in Dedham, Massachusetts; died June 11, 1676

Joseph was the immigrant ancestor of this line of Kingsburys. He probably had 2 brothers who also came to America, Henry & John. Henry came first in 1630 with the Wintrop fleet, and was followed later by brothers Joseph and John.

Joseph & John's nephew, Henry lived in Haverhill, Mass (not sure whose son he was, some say Henry, or another brother Thomas) "John Kingsbury, of Dedham, called Henry Kingsbury, of Haverhill, his kinsman and made him an equal devisee with the children of his brother Joseph....The inventory of the estate of Henry Kingsbury was taken Oct. 10, 1687...Joseph Kingsbury was appointed administrator." [source?]

The Wintrop fleet which sailed in 1630 with 700 passengers and 11 ships to New England had these Kingsbury passengers on board the ship Talbot: Henry Kingsbury of Groton, Suffolk to Boston [d soon after arrival] Mrs. Margaret Kingsbury [wife of Henry] Henry Kingsbury, Jr. [prob son of Henry] Thomas Kingsbury http://members.aol.com/dcurtin1/gene/winthrop.htm http://www.usigs.org/library/books/ma/WinthropFleet/WinthropFleetP058.html

John settled first in Waterman then moved to Dedham in 1636. His will mentioned his wife Margaret, brother Joseph, and Henry Kingsbury of Ipswich.
