About Joseph Hector MacKenzie

Archibald J. taught school for 25 years. He represented this district in the Municipal Council for a time. He settled at Rear Christmas Island and became the first Postmaster of the place. He married first, Mary Campbell, of Shenacadie; second, Catherine, daughter of Hugh Campbell, Jamesville.
Issue:— James A., Mary Ann, Joseph Hector, Margaret, Hugh Francis, Katie Sarah, Mary Elizabeth, Flora Agnes, Jennie and Archie Alex.
Shortly after the commencement of the Great War, Joseph Hector joined the 94th Regiment, and six months later, he enlisted in the 40th Battalion and went overseas. He was transferred to the 5th C.M.R. and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant at Vimy Ridge. After being in the fight for two and a half years, he was killed at Passchendaele, on October 31st, 1917.
