About Joseph Nutt McCain

Son of Hugh McCain and Eleanor Nutt McCain, Joseph married Jeanette Moore March 28, 1799. They moved to Georgia in the mid 1830s. Jeanette died in 1857. Joseph and Jeanette are in the 1850 Chattooga County Georgia Census and Joseph is in the household of his son Robert in Benton (now Calhoun) County Alabama in 1860. He died in 1863 and his obituary appeared in the Jacksonville Republican.

I don't know where Jeanette died or where they were buried. It is possible that they are buried in this cemetery and the graves are not marked. If you have any info please contact me.

Joseph (along with his brother, Hugh McCain Jr.) was my GGGGgrandfather. His daughter, Margarett married William B. McCain, the son of Hugh. That made him her 1st cousin. I am a descendant of William and Margarett's son, John N. McCain, who died in Mississippi during the Civil War.

Margarett and William McCain are buried in Carroll County Georgia. They also have memorials on Find a Grave.
