Deaar Neil, I notice you have Joseph Murrell entered as Isaacs.This may have been his mother's surname. In 1851 there was a Edward Murrell aged 59 a china,glass merchant in Kirkwall This may have been Joseph's father. "Our" Joseph used the surname Isaacs in 1851 and Isaac in 1861 He was 34 in 1851,44 in 1861.In 1871 and 1881 he was Murrell aged 54 and 63 respectively.This is quite clearly the same person with the same wife and children.At one time he was in the glass business as well.Apparently he went to Grimsby and died there.His death certificate might be interesting. Apparently I am half Ashkenazi and half Sephardic or some such proportion. As some Murrells were killed by the Nazis and there are Murrells in Poland this must be the Ashkenazi portion.If his mother were an Isaacs that could be the Sephardic connection. All the best
