About Joseph Edward Nathan
Arrived back in Wellington on the Cheetah on 9 December 1857. By his energy and business foresight Joseph Nathan played a major part in developing New Zealand's export dairy industry.
Joseph Nathan Co. Ltd began dried milk production in Bunnythorpe in 1904. This building of concrete and wood replaced the smaller factory of corrugated iron constructed in 1906. 'Glaxo' became the brand name for Nathan's baby milk product and Glaxo Laboratories was formed in 1937. The factory continued operating until 1973, when Glaxo centred all their production at Botanical Road, Palmerston North.
