Joseph Need

Joseph Need was a yeoman and a Quaker. He was baptized at Arnold, Nottinghamshire, England, on February 19, 1648. His wife was Rebecca. They had two daughters; Rebecca, who was the wife of John Davis and Anne. Joseph Need and his children were legatees in the 1701 will of his father, Nathaniel Neyd. Joseph and his wife, Rebecca both immigrated to Pennsylvania. They settled in Darby, Chester County, PA in 1718. Joseph passed away on June 15, 1741.

He was a yeoman as well as a Quaker. He was baptized at Arnold, Nottinghamshire, England, on February 14, 1648. Joseph married Rebecca. They had two daughters; Rebecca, who was the wife of John Davis, and Anne. (I believe they also had a son, Humphrey, who was a twin). Nathaniel Need MAY be his father. Joseph and his wife Rebecca immigrated to Pennsylvania, settling in Darby Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1718.

Per 'Magna Carta Ancestry,' by Douglas Richardson, Joseph was the eldest son of Nathaniel (1622-1701) and Anne (--1713 Need. His siblings were Samuel, John, Mary, Anne, Dorothy, Sarah, and Hannah.

Joseph's parents both died at Arnold, Nottinghamshire and are buried there.

His grandfather, Humphrey Need Jr., had joined the Society of Friends (Quakers) in 1647, and in 1660 was jailed at Nottingham for refusing to take the Oath of Allegiance.

Joseph and his wife, Rebecca, came to Philadelphia along with his sister Mary and her husband, Edmund Cartledge and Edmund's brother, John.

Joseph and Rebecca were the parents of two daughters: Rebecca (wife of John Davis), and Anne (wife of Nicholas Fred/Fried).
