Joseph O'Connell

Joe C. O'Connell, 78, Newburg, North Dakota, died Monday, January 21, 2013 in a Minot hospital. Burial at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota.

Joe was born November 18, 1934 on the family farm in Elm Township, Bottineau County, rural Newburg, North Dakota, to James W. and Hazel H. (Shurr) O'Connell.

While growing up he moved with his family around North Dakota helping farm, and attended schools in Glenburn, Leeds and graduated from Minnewaukan High School.

On October 26, 1954 he entered the United States Army and served with Company B, 5th Medical Battalion during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on January 16, 1967.

Those who shared in his life, Son, James (Kristy) O'Connell, Newburg, North Dakota; siblings, Elizabeth, Karen, Debbie, Dwight, Agnes, Helen and Marion; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Eddy.
