About Joseph Randall

Joseph was born on Wednesday, 17 July 1720 at Stonington, New London County, Connecticut. He was the son of John Randall II and Mary Baldwin. Joseph married Mary Bartlett on 27 December 1752 at Connecticut. Joseph removed from Stonington, Connecticut and located with his family about 1753 in Dutchess County, New York. About 1754, his family located in Orange County, New York. The family were members of the United Empire Loyalist who fled from New York to Shelbourne, Nova Scotia in the spring of 1783 and settled there. Joseph departed this life at Shelbourne, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Joseph Randall, the ancestor of the Canadian branch of this family, was born in Stonington, Connecticut, 25 February, 1713. His wife [no data of maiden name] was born in Brookfield, Mass., 12 Sept., 1729. They were married 27 Dec., 1752 and lived thereafter in the Providence of New York. Children: Joseph b. in Dutchess County, New York, 22 Dec. 1753; Mary, b. Orange County, New York, 7 Sept. 1755; Goodeth b. Orange County, New York, 18 April 1757; Amos b. Orange County, New York, 17 April 1759; Lydia b. Orange County, New York, 12 Sept. 1761; Nathan b. Orange County, New York, 28 Mar, 1763; Feliz b. Orange County, New York, 11 Nov. 1766; Jacob b. Orange County, New York, 27 Sept. 1768.

At the time of the Revolutionary War, this family was divided in its loyality and, it is said, that the Loyalist Branches left their possessions on Manhattan Island of some two thousand acres and located at Halifax, Nova Scotia.
