Tanner and miller. Inherited 10 acres in Bristol from his father, built grist mill and later his mansion, "Willowmere", on what is now upper Elm Street, that stayed in Reynolds family for seven generations. House was headquarters for Lafayette when in Bristol, and was bombarded by British fleet.

Joseph was ensign in Bristol County Militia, member of Congregational Church.
